In-Home Services/Homemaker

The In-Home Service Division of the McDonough County Health Department provides trained homemakers to assist individuals 60 years and older to remain in their homes. Reference and background checks are required on all homemakers. Client confidentiality is maintained.

Effective June 30, 2007 the McDonough County Health Department closed its In-Home Services Program.

Homemaker Information

Position description

Homemaker service is defined as general non-medical support by supervised homemaker who has received specialized training in the provision of homemaker services. The purpose of providing homemaker service is to maintain, strengthen and safeguard the functioning of individuals in their own home when no responsible and capable person is available for this purpose, in accordance with the authorized plan of care.

Client Eligibility

  • Sixty years of age
  • *Under sixty years of age (*see below)
  • U.S. citizen
  • Moderately impaired
  • Meet income guidelines

Funding Sources


The program is funded through a variety of sources:

  • Department on Aging-Community Care Program-Referral through Alternatives
  • Private Pay- offered on a sliding scale (as openings become available)
  • *Office of Rehabilitation Services for those under sixty years of age with a disability
  • Respite- Referred through alternatives
  • Hospice- Referred through hospice
